This Caldor Fire image was included in Tahoe Quarterly’s recent story, “When Fire Moves Higher” which discusses the impact and causes of the increasingly extreme fire behavior in the alpine environment.
The image was taken in the El Dorado NF the afternoon the fire first experienced rapid growth. Given the conditions at the time it was apparent that this was going to an extremely difficult force to stop.
