Central Nevada Driving Tours

The historic ghost town of Belmont in Central Nevada is one of many boom and bust mining towns scattered throughout the Nevada desert. At one point in the late 1800’s, during the silver and gold rush, the population reached nearly 2,000 residents. Today, there are only a handful of year round residents who live among the ruins of this way off the grid iconic town.

We were very much impressed by how well preserved many of the structures scattered throughout town are. The court house and jail cells were certainly a sight to see. After exploring the town we stopped at the saloon where we met a few friendly characters. Then we got to enjoy having the local campground to ourselves.

Descending into the town of Kingston in Central Nevada after camping above Groves Lake. This was just a car camping trip, but it made us want to return to one day hike the surrounding peaks and spring was a great time to be there.

On the way up the canyon we drove through a couple of deep puddles and saw only a few trucks and dirt biked beyond them, as the condition of the road worsened. From where we camped we didn’t see another vehicle for almost 24 hours, which is always part of the fun of exploring Nevada.
