On a cold morning with a thick marine layer in place, riders set out from Solvang, California on a scenic tour through Central Coast wine country. The athletes had the option of a century, metric century, or half century ride on country roads with rolling hills. Riders faced sustained climbs, but nothing particularly steep. 3,879′ of climbing lay ahead for the riders who signed up for the century ride.
As the marine layer lifted temperatures rose and riders were treated to blue skies and calm winds for the majority of the tour. Everyone appeared to be in good spirits as they passed my photo locations on Santa Rosa Road and even during the final climb on Foxen Canyon Road.
This is considered a beginner friendly event with a range of ability levels.
